The sleepy oil town of Bakersfield ambushes Jack LIffey and his daughter Maeve on a one-night stopover. Long suspicious of outsiders, the town has made a grim history of oopressing Mexican workers, labor organizers, Okies and blacks--and now it's cast its demon fears on rebellious teens they call Satanists.
Hysteria reigns in a giant book burning. Police round up young troublemakers, and Maeve disappears. A thick fog envelops Bakersfield's giant saucer-shaped Evangelical chursh, and against Jacks' best efforts, the head pastor prepares to exorcise the girls of their demons.
